We are really excited to be delivering this initiative in Lincoln. We are working with volunteers to create fresh, tasty and healthy meals from scratch! We source local produce wherever possible and we strive to stay away from Ultra Processed Foods (UPF). We believe that everyone should have access to great food no matter their social, physical, mental or economic situation and we think this project is a huge leap forward for us in our quest to help more people access better food - get in touch if you want to volunteer or find out more!
We are working at Burton Road Methodist Church Hall every Tuesday morning from 10:30 - 12:30 and Moorland Community Centre every Tuesday morning from 10:00 - 12:00 - come and pop in if you want to find out more or see us in action.
We make meal 'starter kits' with fresh vegetables which are then donated to Lincoln's Community Grocery Store, anyone can then pick these up as part of a shop (check out their website via this link for details about how to join etc.). The reason we have started making starter kits is because we have learned over the past couple of years that many people struggle to prepare fresh vegetables either because of physical conditions, due to not having the experience, because of the costs or simply due to a lack of time! These vegetable packs are a great way for anyone to make tasty and healthy meals by popping them into a slow cooker or pot and adding whatever else you fancy - stock, herbs or spices, meats, you can even blend it all up to make a soup!
The slogan for the project is 'Made by the community for our community' which we love because it shows what this project means for our amazing volunteers; by coming together, our volunteers have fun, connect with new and old friends and are able to give something back to their local communities - they can see directly that the meals they help to make are being delivered down the road and helping others who live in Lincoln - it's such a rewarding project and we are so clear about the benefits that we are looking to develop and expand Chop Chat & Change to help even more people.
