Ingredients
Sponge
250g pitted dates, chopped
100g butter melted
4 tbsp treacle
1 tsp vanilla extract
70g light brown soft sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
200g self-raising flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
Sauce
200ml boiling water
100g butter cubed
200g light brown sugar.

Sauce
200ml boiling water
100g butter cubed
200g light brown sugar.
Method
Take all the sponge ingredients and mix thoroughly in a bowl. Lightly butter your slow cooker and pour in.
Sprinkle 200g of light brown sugar on top of the sponge mix, dot with butter and gently pour 200ml of boiling water on top.
Cook on low setting for 4 hrs. The liquid will work its way to the bottom creating a rich sauce. Serve straight away as if left for too long the sauce gets absorbed by the sponge. Serve with clotted cream or ice cream.
